A birthday can be a useful
time to review Medigap.

Oregon’s birthday rule is a specific replacement protection for eligible people who already have a Medicare Supplement policy.

Understand the window and its limits.

The annual window begins 30 days before the birthday and continues for 30 days afterward. The replacement coverage must offer the same or lesser benefits under Oregon’s rules.

This is not a general opportunity to move from Medicare Advantage into any Medigap policy. Older policies, employer arrangements, and other circumstances can require a closer check.

Review your policy, the replacement options, costs, and the sequence of the change before canceling existing coverage. The protection does not promise savings or an upgrade in benefits.

Ask the right follow-up.

Ask Steve or Oregon SHIBA whether your existing policy qualifies, which replacement options meet the rule, and when the application and coverage change would take effect.
